On Being an Endodontist

"Let's be honest—nobody wakes up excited to visit an endodontist, and the thought of a root canal can definitely feel a bit intimidating. I get it! In fact, I've had my own share of toothaches, root canals, and retreatments, so I know firsthand how stressful dental pain is.

Being lighthearted by nature, I really believe a little warmth, humor, and kindness can go a long way when you're feeling anxious or hurting. My ultimate goal is to help you feel safe, relaxed, and completely confident that you're in good hands.

I hold myself to the highest of standards and bring years of experience to the table, but more than that, I promise to treat you like a person, not just a tooth. I'm always here to listen, answer your questions, and ease your worries.

At the end of the day, I want to change how people view root canals. Modern endodontic care is surprisingly quick, comfortable, and painless—and I hope you leave my office not just feeling better, but maybe even a little surprised at how easy the whole experience was."

Education/Experience:

Dr. Kristy Bultema began her undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where she played women’s soccer. She went on to graduate summa cum laude from The Ohio State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a minor in Spanish. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 2013, graduating summa cum laude and first in her class. At graduation, she received the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity Award and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society. She was also honored with the Pre-doctoral Student Achievement Award in Endodontics.

Following dental school, Dr. Bultema completed her Endodontics Specialty Certificate and Master of Science degree through The Ohio State University College of Dentistry’s Advanced Endodontic Program in 2015. Her research has been published in the Journal of Endodontics, the leading scientific journal in her specialty.

Personal Affiliations and Activities:

Dr. Bultema is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists and the Ohio Association of Endodontists. She is a past president of the Ohio Association of Endodontists and served on its board from 2021–2024. She remains committed to lifelong learning, regularly attending local and national continuing education programs and participating in professional study groups to stay current with the latest techniques, technology, and advancements in endodontic care.

Beyond the Office

A lifelong resident of the area, Dr. Bultema is proud to call Westerville home—a place where she grew up, met her husband, Pat, and now raises their four children. Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and cheering her children on at their sporting events. She is quick to laugh and, tooth be told, loves a good pun. She finds comfort in baking and joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially sunshine, laughter, and time with the people she loves.
